VII. Blind Date Convention Ljubljana 2022 is moving towards its final act: the Artist Books and Art Publications Fair – Ljubljana Art Book Fair 2022.

On Thursday, 22 December 2022 at 6 p.m., we are opening the Artist Books and Art Publications Fair in the premises of the P74 Centre and Gallery. The fair will be open between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

At the opening, the expert jury will announce the best Artist Book published in Slovenia between 2019 and 2022. The winning book will be promoted by the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute in 2023 at central fairs in Europe and at the NY Art Book Fair in New York, and will also support the production of the publication of the winner’s new Artist Book.

In addition to individual artists, the fair will feature:
Sergej Vutuc, Nez Pez, Institute for Contemporary Art Zagreb, Mina Fina, Zavod P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E., Kodoji Press, Jaka Vatovec, Lealudvik, Marko K. Gavez, and others (the list is being updated).

During the fair, you can also find a carefully selected set of Artist Books, catalogues, zines, and art editions by domestic and foreign artists and publishers at KAPSULA.

The seventh edition of the Blind Date Convention Ljubljana, 2022 is the main event dedicated to producing, promoting, and popularizing Artist Books and art publications. The Convention remains on the path of finding ever-new horizons.

We began this year’s edition with a lecture by Suzana Milevska, Kalokagathia: The relationship between the categories of aesthetic, ethical and political in contemporary art and curatorship, at P74 Gallery on 4 October 2022. The lecture was focused on reciprocal relationships between the categories of beautiful and good, between form and content, and between some other dichotomous concepts that arose during modernism and still influence the discursive field of contemporary art.

This was followed by participation in the Artist Books and art editions fair ACCIDENT(s) – Atypical Book Fair 2022 in Paris between 10 November and 13 November 2022. This was a premiere of a promising new Paris fair featuring innovative creators of Artist Books, antiquarians, presentations of historical ephemera, new productions created at the crossroads of art and activism, etc.

From 2 December to 20 December 2022, we are hosting an exhibition, ANTIQUE SHOP LJUBLJANA, by the Zagreb art historian and critic Darko Šimičić. His collection includes hundreds of Artist Books by local and international artists, created from the 1920s to the present day.

> Along with the exhibition, we are announcing the promotion of new publications, including the latest catalogue of Tadej Pogačar’s project Animal Houses People. Early Works.

The exhibition is followed by the traditional Artist Books and art editions fair which will be on view in P74 Gallery, featuring selected local publishers and self-publishers, and international guests (22 December 2022, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.).

> Also this year, at the fair, we will award a prize for the best Artist Book published between 2019 and 2022.

All events of the Blind Date Convention Ljubljana 2022 are free of charge.
We look forward to seeing you!
