Nika Rupnik, Feng šui

23 February – 17 March 2017
KAPSULA, Trg Prekomorskih brigad 1, Ljubljana

You are kindly invited to the opening of the exhibition by Nika Rupnik, “Feng šui” at KAPSULA, on Thursday, 23 January 2017 at 7 p.m.

Nika Rupnik creates site-specific installations in which she combines paintings, drawings, photography and objects. Her process of construction reminds us of stage scenography, in which she creates an imaginary world, composed of notes and impressions. Her main medium of expression is drawing, which she spreads across various unconventional surfaces such as fabric, felt, plastic wrap. Different transparent material such as tracing paper or plexiglass are layered to create a specific complexity, as the image is enlarged, multiplied, recreated as a mirrored reflection, etc. Nika Rupnik creates her own scene which carries a specific atmosphere. Thanks to the layout and the layering, the spectator is invited to follow the line of the drawing, stop in front of photographs and observe the spatial objects from different perspectives. Nika Rupnik’s details are full of optical illusions and tricks, it’s possible to see more than it seems at first glance. The artist undoubtedly demands an attentive and dedicated observer who is not satisfied with an instantaneous and superficial viewing.

Nika Rupnik (1991, live in Ljubljana) after attending the Secondary School for Design and Photography in Ljubljana, she studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana (UL ALUO), from where she graduated in 2012. During her studies she spent a semester in Great Britain at the Winchester School of Art. She is currently finishing her graduate studies in painting from UL ALUO. She has participated in many solo and group in Slovenia and in other countries.
